Cylindrical lenses are used to correct astigmatism in the eye and in rangefinders, to produce astigmatism,stretching a point of light into a line. Some styles of cylindrical lenses have antireflection coatings to increase the transmission of light through the lens. 

Meniscus Cylinder Lens can increase the NA of the system while only adding slightly to the total spherical aberrations. The Negative Meniscus Cylindrical Lens is used to increase the focal length of another lens while maintaining the angular resolution of the optical assembly. This lens shape is best used when one conjugate is relatively far from the lens. 

Optical Glass Rod Cylindrical Lens are polished on the circumference and ground on both ends. Optical performance is similar to a Cylinder Lens . Collimated light passing through the diameter of the rod lens will be focused into a line. N-BK7 and UV Fused Silica substrates are available for a variety of UV, Visible and NIR applications. Rod cylinder lens used in the fields of medical, electronic, information, agriculture, communication and etc.

Plano-concave Cylinder Lens commonly used to turn a collimated laser source into a line generator. The plano-concave Cylinder Lens and Plano-Convex Cylinder Lens ( Pcx Cylindrical Lens ) can be used together for beam expander applications.

An Achromatic Cylindrical Lens will have noticeable advantages over a comparable diameter and focal length singlet cylindrical lens.
